Hello everyone! WOW. It has been two weeks since I have posted. Unacceptable! I can’t believe how fast time is flying by already this summer. I hope this post finds you happy, sunny, somewhere near the beach, or somewhere that is your summer spot! Whatever it is that you are doing, I hope you are enjoying summer to the fullest. We are almost to 4th of July already…it’s nuts!
This week, I wanted to talk to you about social media again. I feel like with school out and everything, there’s a lot more time that we tend to spend on computers than we normally would, and so I think today is a good day to talk about some positives of social media, rather than the downfalls it may have (like the last time the topic was brought up)! With new forms of social media happening everyday, it’s hard to keep track of what’s cool and what’s not cool. Vine, Twitter, Instagram (and now Instagram does Vine type videos?!), Facebook (is Facebook even cool these days anymore?!)- we all have at least one of these accounts, more than likely. I know I do! What I really want to talk to you all about are ways that we can use social media for good, rather than the bad that we so often see. So, I’ve listed a few things to take into consideration for the next time you get online.
1. Follow people on Twitter/Instagram/Vine/Facebook who are going to have a positive influence on you. Follow someone inspirational like your favorite athlete or favorite dancer or favorite musician, whatever it may be, I encourage you to follow someone who you KNOW will have positive, good, posts on their sites. Trust me, it’s so fun to follow your favorite most inspirational person.
2. Make YOUR posts the positive ones amongst your friends. Don’t succumb to the pressures to join in on a negative conversation or comment on something you know you probably shouldn’t. I challenge you to make your posts the ones that people will look to for inspiration and optimism. It sounds a bit corny, but to be honest, if we are going to have a social media world that is used for good and not negativity, it’s got to start somewhere…RIGHT HERE!
3. Lastly, do what you can to stop those who love to start drama on the internet. If one of your friends typically posts about drama from school or whatever it may be on the internet, be the one who steps up. Now, obviously you don’t need to make a public call-out to the person, in fact, I advise you not to since that kind of goes against what we’re going for here. But maybe you talk to them when it’s just you two hanging out. Figure out a way that will work best to talk to your friend and make suggestions on better things they can post about than unnecessary drama!
So, there you have it. I honestly think that if we can start doing things from the list above, social media won’t be such a scary, drama-filled, place anymore. Instead, it can be used for their ultimate purposes- to link up old friends, to keep everyone up to date on your life, and to share cool things you’ve been doing lately. It’s going to take a lot more than just one person to step up and do this, but if we all come together and make a solid effort into making these changes- we can do a lot of good in this world. We can make such a big difference you guys! It’s crazy!
I’ll leave you with some songs I think you should check out. Let me know what you think and what you’ve been listening to lately too! I hope you all have an awesome rest of the week. Enjoy the summer, enjoy the fun, enjoy the friends, enjoy LIFE!!! See you all next week- same time, same place!
